Website development to connect experts and policymakers: www.amudaryabasin.net. The website serves as the key online platform for Amu Darya Basin Network members and other experts and policymakers interested in networking opportunities. It contains an online repository for up-to-date research and policy documentation relating to issues of water security in Afghanistan and Central Asia.

Regular conference calls between experts, to establish connections and to discuss the role and activities of the network.

Some of the members of the Amu Darya Basin Network met in Tashkent, Uzbekistan to discuss, among other things, the establishment of a Regional Centre of Excellence to focus on the issue of regional water security and to inform development policies.

The EastWest Institute (EWI), the Parliamentarians Network for Conflict Prevention, Wageningen University and the Amu Darya Basin Network organised a conference on ‘Enhancing Security in Afghanistan and Central Asia through Regional Cooperation on Water’ at the European Parliament in Brussels on 7 December 2010. More than 75 policymakers and representatives of academic, civil society and donor organisations from Afghanistan, Central Asia, Belgium, the Netherlands and other countries attended the conference. Many of the principal donors were present, including the Council of the European Union, the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the World Bank, the UN Economic Commission for Europe, the UN-Water Decade Programme on Capacity Development, the UNESCO, the German Technical Cooperation GTZ, and the Economic Cooperation Organisation.
